Community Benefits
Community benefits are essential contractual clauses included in contracts awarded by public bodies. They ensure social value for local communities and good causes from public spending.
Community benefits are a statutory requirement. Their purpose is to improve the prosperity of an area in a way that is more than the main purpose of the contract. They don't have to cost the contractor anything to deliver them but they must be delivered following the award of a contract. The aim is to strengthen links between the contractor and the community.
Our community benefits fit into four broad priorities
- employability & skills
- education & outreach
- community engagement, environment and nature
- supply chain & business collaboration
If you are tendering for a contract, you can choose the type of community benefits you offer from a menu of options. Each option has a point-based value based on how well it contributes to our (The City of Edinburgh Council) priorities. This is to ensure the contract has appropriate and proportionate community benefits. We can support you to identify and meet community benefits in the employability & skills priority group.
