Edinburgh Leisure is accepting referrals from young people aged 16-25 interested in developing skills and qualifications in the sport and leisure sector, to apply for fully funded spaces.

Edinburgh Leisure's Workforce Development Project is offering fully funded opportunities for young people aged 16-25 to gain skills and qualifications through the Summer of Sport programme until the end of March 2027.

The programme offers free of cost opportunities to achieve:

  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
  • Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ)
  • Introduction to Teaching Swimming
  • Emergency First Aid Qualification

To attend an NPLQ course, candidates must be aged 16 or over by the date of the final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in under 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously (front and back)
  • Tread water for 30 seconds in deep water
  • Surface dive to the bottom of the pool
  • Climb out of the pool unaided (where pool design permits)

This will be assessed before candidates are accepted onto the programme.
