Brief summary
One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) in Edinburgh offers comprehensive support for single parents. We help individuals who want to find work or advance in their current roles. We can also help you pursue education and training.
What does the support look like?
Our person-centred Employability Support Service and Childcare Connector Service provides tailored support to overcome barriers and develop essential skills. Single parents who are out of work will be supported on their journey into employment. Action plans are agreed with parents and you are supported by their OPFS Support Worker throughout.

This can include:

Taking your first steps to gain skills and knowledge

Undertaking training

Compiling CVs

Applying for college

Completing application forms

Preparing for interviews.

You can find free training to build your confidence, skills, and job prospects. Once you start working, in-work support helps you tackle any issues that could affect your job.

If you're a working parent, OPFS Edinburgh can help. We offer support to build your confidence, update your CV, and find accredited training. You can also discover new job opportunities. Also, we help parents talk to their employers about personal development and job opportunities.

For all single parents starting, returning, or moving ahead in work, education, and training, our Childcare Connector workers help you find and secure childcare. This support lets you achieve your goals.
What will I get?
With 1:1 support, we can tailor your employability journey to meet your needs. This creates a smooth link between employability support and childcare access.  Our "Better Off in Work" calculations help single parents make informed choices about jobs, education, and training. For those facing job loss, we provide tailored support to help them keep their jobs or move to new ones. Our 6-week 'Empowerment to Employment Programme' teaches parents skills for job searching, gaining qualifications, and financial planning. Our 'Childcare Connector' service helps single parents find and access the right childcare for their needs. This support enables you to enter, re-enter, or progress in work, education, or training.
