Lori is currently enrolled in a 4-year Graduate Apprenticeship (GA), she is studying a Master of Arts in Business Management at Heriot-Watt University, whilst working with the City of Edinburgh Council’s Business Growth and Inclusion team. Prior to this, Lori gained experience in the hospitality sector, working at the Champany Inn steakhouse. She was uncertain about her next steps until she learned more about the opportunities offered by a graduate apprenticeship.
Lori was drawn to this apprenticeship because of the unique opportunity to earn while she learns—combining practical work experience with a university degree. She values the chance to develop a diverse set of skills that will support her future career ambitions.
Throughout her apprenticeship, Lori has acquired a wide range of valuable skills and practical knowledge that she believes will benefit her long-term. She admits that balancing a full-time role with university coursework can be challenging at times, but she has successfully managed this through learning how to prioritise her time and practice her time management skills.
Reflecting on her experience, Lori says, “Choosing a graduate apprenticeship has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It has taught me valuable skills and knowledge that prepares me well for my future.”
Lori’s manager, Al Bryce feels that

To date, Lori has successfully passed all her university classes and continues to receive support from her colleagues, manager, university lecturers, and classmates. Her role allows her to apply academic theories in real-world settings, which benefits her workplace and university.
