I am care experienced

The Edinburgh Guarantee and all of our funded projects are committed to supporting care experienced young people to access employment and training opportunities.

This is part of Edinburgh’s Promise to care experienced young people that they will grow up loved, safe, and respected.

While all of our employability services will support you to move towards jobs, training and education, there are some dedicated services for you if you are care experienced:

The City of Edinburgh Council’s Throughcare and After Care team offer support, advice and guidance to you if you have been looked after by the local authority at or beyond your 16th birthday.

  • Throughcare is the support and advice we offer to you as you prepare to live more independently.
  • Aftercare is the ongoing support and advice we offer to you. This can carry on until your 26th birthday.

It is your social worker’s responsibility to make sure that a referral is made to us well before you leave care. This means that your move will take place at the right time.

We offer support with various issues including housing, employment, health, education and financial advice through an allocated worker service, a duty service and a variety of groupwork programmes.

Find out more about the support available on their website: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/looked-children-young-people/throughcare-aftercare-young-people

The Promising Young People initiative offers care experienced young people aged 16-24 the opportunity of a fully funded bespoke work placement within the City of Edinburgh Council. The work placement is an individual offer, designed to suit your specific requirements. Placements are available in various teams across the city.

If you are interested in this opportunity, you can be referred by officers at Throughcare and After Care

As well as the projects listed here, there are many others that can help you reach your goals.

View the Find a Service directory for full details of all the services that are available.
