Macmillan Income Maximisation and Advice Officer

The Advice Shop is seeking Income Maximisation and Advice Officers who will work with locality-based colleagues to provide a high quality income maximisation and money advice service, working to the National Standards for Information and Advice Providers. Contributing to the Council's prevention and early intervention approaches to addressing poverty and homelessness, you will be part of a wider service area seeking to develop, deliver, and improve integrated services to individuals and households.

• You will undertake advice provision across both welfare rights and money advice, while assisting colleagues and service users with all aspects of advice provision and developing the service to maximise accessibility and impact.
• You will work closely with others across the Council and with Department for Work and Pensions, Social Security Scotland, voluntary sector, statutory services, creditors and NHS provision.
• Offering a person-centred, outcome focused intervention to all age groups to tackle inequality, poverty and maintain tenancies, you will have excellent inter-personal and communication skills.

• Expected to be educated to HND or higher or have significant alternative demonstrable experience.
• Experience of working in a welfare rights OR other advice environment.
• Understand the aims and objectives of the Homelessness Services, in particular, advice services.
• Use of knowledge to find creative solutions for people who may be on a low income, vulnerable, disabled, experiencing ill-health, homelessness and/or in insecure or inappropriate accommodation.
• Ability to work in a sensitive manner, manage customer expectations and deal with conflict, including taking firm and effective action to manage complex situations.
• Ability to identify and effectively engage with customers who have complex issues, including experience of trauma.
