We know how important a little bit of financial support can be
for a business when recruiting and training young people and
current employees. We have identified a range of wage
incentives, also known as Employer Recruitment Incentives (ERIs),
and other available funding for workforce training.
Skills Development Scotland - Modern Apprenticeships:
- Modern Apprenticeships are available to anyone over 16
- Applicants over 25 can receive funding, though it must be in
specific sectors. A list of these can be found on the Skills
Development Scotland website
- The training programme must be listed in the Modern Apprentice
framework, which totals over 70 different vocational and
- All training covered under the MA framework contains the
following three components:
- A relevant SVQ or alternative competency based
- Core Skills
- Industry specific training.
The funding is typically paid to the organisations providing the

Skills Development Scotland, Adopt an Apprentice:
Adopt an Apprentice is a financial incentive available to a
business who employs a redundant apprentice for at least 12 months
allowing them to complete their apprenticeship and gain their
The business gains a motivated and skilled employee plus £2,000
to help towards wage costs. For the Oil and Gas Industry, or from
the wider supply chain in Engineering or Engineering Construction
only, the incentive is £5,000.

CITB - Employer Incentives - Grants
CITB are the leadership organisation for the UKs construction
industry and administer a number of grants to qualifying
businesses. These grants can include Apprenticeship Grant Support,
Technical Management and Professional Grant Support; Training and
Development Plans and Professional Grant Support; CPCS Plant Grant
Support; Qualifying Your Workforce Grant Support plus more.
