  • Open any future apprenticeships suitable for school leavers to the Edinburgh Guarantee
  • Promote the Edinburgh Guarantee to clients, prospective clients and contractors
  • Maintain apprenticeship numbers at 2% of our total staff
  • Help develop the employability skills of 300 Edinburgh school students through our Work Inspiration programme
  • BT Scotland has funded an ICT suite at Edinburgh-based charity, Intowork, where over 100 people with disabilities get ICT skills training and support to prepare them for employment
  • Offer around 80 apprenticeships in Scotland for young people in 2013
  • Funding from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation to develop innovative programmes that will equip young people with the skills necessary for employment
  • Enabling early intervention work within schools assisting young people to transition more effectively from education into adult life
  • Supporting our employees to volunteer their time and expertise to nurture young people to develop their skills and talents
  • Sustainably increase the number of job opportunities targeted towards young people leaving school, and to providing development in these roles to enhance future employability
  • Work in partnership with our external skills and learning partners to provide school leavers with opportunities to secure industry-recognised qualifications
  • Champion and promote the work of the Edinburgh Guarantee to other Higher Education Institutions within the Edinburgh area, our supply chain and other organisations we work in partnership with

  • Return profits from dedicated mobile phone recycle units in public buildings to the Edinburgh Guarantee
  • Open up digital opportunities and business mentoring for children in Edinburgh schools
  • Champion the Edinburgh Guarantee to business peers to encourage more organisations to support the vision
  • In partnership with J.P. Morgan and Forth Sector, Barnardo's Scotland will provide support to 50 young people in their transition from school to a sustained positive destination
  • Through our Council-funded service, we will offer 10 places to young school leavers who are seeking employment by providing access to work placements in the private sector
  • Through our SDS funded Scotland's Best programme, we will offer 10 places to support young school leavers to access a short volunteering experience and gain sustained employment
  • Support those out of work to gain meaningful work experience that will enhance their future career prospects
  • Offer practical advice on how to write winning CVs that will help them get interviews
  • Mentor, support and prepare candidates for interviews
  • Demonstrate leadership across our sector and the city, bringing to life our commitment to helping our communities through employability
  • Continue to offer real, work based opportunities for young people, working with our partners and peers
  • Champion and showcase the talents of young people and the benefits they bring to the workplace
  • Working alongside our local schools to offer work experience, a mentor scheme and interview skills to prepare students for leaving school
  • Help people progress by developing skills and job-related qualifications, such as apprenticeships and first-rate, practical training at one of our seven food colleges
  • Support young people who may have previously faced barriers to employment through our You Can scheme, set up in 2008, working with partners such as Remploy and Mencap
  • Paid internships/Modern Apprenticeship opportunities with guaranteed employment opportunities
  • Work placement opportunities to help young people enter the world of work
  • Further development of the Pre-employment Academy of Clinical Support Worker roles with accredited national award and guaranteed interviews to also include the schools Senior Phase Academy

  As the Lead Partner, the City of Edinburgh Council committed to:

  • increase Modern Apprenticeship numbers to at least 1% of our workforce

  • establish a support team to make it easy for employers to support the Guarantee

  • champion the Guarantee to our peers and help them become involved.
